What a great year for new coin releases and still more to come. Many collectors don’t like so many coin releases – and this year there does seem to be a lot of them! However, they do bring new collectors into the fold, and generally create excitement around coin collecting as a worthwhile, rewarding hobby and investment vehicle.
In a previous blog we mentioned the 2012 Titanic, near sell out now, but there are still a few available at the Perth Mint currently priced at $107.00. The 2012 1oz High Relief Dragon is now near sell out with a limit of one per order.
Now you can also add to the must have list the 2012 2oz Coloured Dragon ANDA Coin Fair release.
This continues previous 2oz releases of Lunar coins by the mint. These releases have proved very popular with collectors usually selling out and showing strong and steady price appreciation, a sign the series is still gaining popularity with collectors.
The Australian Numismatic Dealer’s Association (ANDA) show was held in Perth on March 2nd and 3rd. As part of their offerings, the Perth Mint released the Coin Fair 2oz Coloured Year of the Dragon Coin. With limited mintage of 5,000 – with very few going to dealers, and overwhelming demand, queues were forming at 7.30am just to get this coin.
With the excitement generated by the 2012 Lunar releases generally, and the strong demand for the previous releases, it makes the 2012 2oz ANDA Dragon a must have coin.
With a cost price of $172.00 at the shows and the coin fetching $500 to $1000 on EBay at this time, obtaining one of these is a priority so keep your eyes open.
I managed to purchase one for $450.00, if you find a better price let me know, leave a comment.
